SACRED LOTUS FLOWER

SACRED LOTUS FLOWER

Also known as Indian lotus, sacred lotus, bean of India or simply lotus, water lotus carries its scientific name of Nelumbo nucifera. It is one of the two species of the water plant in the Nelumbonaceae family. This flower is usually cultured in water gardens and is a native to the tropical Asia and Queensland, Australia. The lotus is the national flower of India and Vietnam.
Often, this variety is often confused to the water lilies or the Nymphaea caerulea from the family if Nymphaea and often called the ‘blue lotus’. But sources say they are evolutionarily incorrect because both of them are not related. They are members of different families.
